Mexico needs 400,000 English teachers and has 80,000
Mexico needs 400,000 English teachers to cover its public schools and has 80,000. 86% of basic-education schools do not have a single one. 97% of public middle school graduates fall short of the level SEP’s own curriculum promises. And 52% of the teachers who do teach English do not reach the B1 level required of their students.
The country shares a 3,142-kilometer border with the world’s largest economy, and its growth engine runs in English. That single variable shapes lifetime earnings. Few gaps are as easy to explain to a family, or as hard to close later.
Does your school just paint “bilingual” on the wall, or can it prove it with a test?
