A scholarship is the most expensive way to solve a process problem: everyone’s tuition gets discounted so as not to lose families who already wanted to enroll.

Scholarships at private schools: 68% offer them, and the median has 40% of students on one

In the October 2026 edition, 68% of institutions offer scholarships: 83% of universities and 63% of primary schools. Among those that do, the median has 40% of students on scholarship, with an average scholarship of 25%.

Read it alongside median occupancy of 46%. A scholarship does not fill a school: it lowers revenue per student to make up for a process that does not convert. It is the most expensive way to solve a problem that response speed and follow-up solve.

What share of your enrollment is on scholarship? And how many of those scholarships were given so as not to “lose” a family that already wanted to enroll?

Where it comes from

Share of students on scholarship and average scholarship as reported by the director. Sample: 102 Enrollment X-Rays completed between March and October 2026 with owners and directors of 102 private institutions in 69 Mexican cities. These are institutions that requested the diagnostic, not the country. Median, not average: one school with 7,000 students skews the average and makes it lie. Scholarship students n = 15 / 27 / 50 (primary schools, universities, all); offer scholarships n = 66.

Median before average; no figure based on fewer than 5 institutions is published. Full methodology.
