Enrollment X-Ray series · October 2026 edition · data point 17 of 19

6 in 10 directors blame price. 4 in 10 admit there was no follow-up.

Price is the comfortable explanation: it lets everyone off the hook. Follow-up is the uncomfortable one: it is under the school’s control.

Why families don’t enroll, according to directors: 62% blame price, 38% admit no follow-up

When we asked directors why families who did come for a campus visit did not enroll, 62% said price and 38% admitted the families got no follow-up. Next come capacity or schedule, the competition and distance.

This is what the director believes, not what was measured. And the belief has a pattern: the most cited cause is the one that is nobody’s fault. The second is the only one fully under the school’s control. With median tuition of $3,300MXN and 13.4 million households able to pay it, price is rarely the reason. Silence almost always is.

Of the last 10 families that did not enroll, how many did you call to ask why?

Where it comes from

What the director believes happened with families who came for a campus visit and did not enroll; this is belief, not measurement. Sample: 102 Enrollment X-Rays completed between March and October 2026 with owners and directors of 102 private institutions in 69 Mexican cities. These are institutions that requested the diagnostic, not the country. Median, not average: one school with 7,000 students skews the average and makes it lie.

Median before average; no figure based on fewer than 5 institutions is published. Full methodology.
